It was nice speaking today at two virtual conferences: the World TVET Conference in Sydney and the SHRM Conference in New Delhi, India. I was pleased that I did not have to travel but could stay at the University of Cyberjaya and deliver my sessions. Great topics. Every speaker was addressing the new normal. The focus was squarely on human development. Education is always a contested topic.
In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the New Education Policy which he claimed will transform millions of lives in the times to come, This new Policy is based on the pillars of ‘access, equity, quality, affordability and accountability’. While this is a welcome move, it was surprising that the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has been renamed as the Ministry of Education. While the decision can be argued either way, it was disappointing that the reasons for the change was because the HRD Ministry was formulated during the tenure of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Guess politics still has a role in policy making.
